Previous Week's Speaker: Classification
Talk bu Doug Holmes
This week our club heard from Doug Holmes regarding
his classification and a little bit more.
Doug started out telling us his mom enlisted in the army after WWII
started. This is important becasue she met Doug's father a merchant
Marine on An English ship. Through avoiding nazi u-boats the two were
married and after the was moved to South Africa. When the Hamilton
laws passed and apartheid started his parents moved to Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Doug was born there and attended Abington Highschool.Doug was on the
swim team there.
From 1969-70 Doug was an exchange student on Sweden through Rotary.
It was very memorable. He was able to meet the king of Sweden and
played basketball with the Harlem Globetrotters. Doug also taught
English and refereed basketball. When hew came back to the US he repeated
his senior year in highschool and was graduated in 1971. Doug attended
Duquesne U. and then went to Penn State to earn a degree in political
science in 1975. He found a position as a police officer upon graduation.
He met his wife while on duty and she was in the East Halls dormitory.
They have two children. Rebecca and Katey.
Doug was a street cop and investigator for ten years before taking
a position in parking management. He is now an assistant director,
working with Teresa Davis.
