Previous Week's Speaker: Brian Knox - Forests are our Future

Brian Know, the executive director of Save the Forest from Bedford spoke with us this past week. He gave us information about forests and their preservation or lack of it. In Pennsylvania, the state's forests employ over 100 thousand workjers making it the 4th largest industry in the state. We are number 1 in hard wood. Some problems with our forests include high vegetation that prevents seedlings from growth. He said that forest management is not working. Over 25% of forests are privately owned with the average plot being 23 acres. There are over 6.5 million deer in the state or 23 per square mile. There were 500,000 at the turn of the 20th century.
Brian's job focusses on assisting property owners to develop a plan for their trees based on their personal goals.
