Previous Week's Speaker: Congressman Peterson with a legislative update

Our speaker this past week was Dr. Kim Steiner with PSU. He is a forester and also the is the Director of the PSU Arboretum. Kim came here from Michigan State.

Dr. Steiner illustrated the footprint for the arboretum at Penn State. It is the first piece of land visitors see upon getting off the by-pass (I-99) coming into State College. The land is along side Park Avenue and extends back toward he armory and the Interstate. Among the first plans are the parcel know as the Mitchell tract. The Mitchell tract lies between the driveway to Shreyer House and Park Avenue and extends over to the horticulture gardens.

In this area will hosue many items such as a pond, and education building, and much more. Dr. Steiner broguht with him, John Krumrine who is responsible for development of the funds to be used for the arboretum along with other funds for the Agriculture School. They are presently in the midst of a fund drive to deleop the Mitchell Tract and hope to have it complete by 2005.
