LAST WEEK IN REVIEW

Visiting Rotarians: Maggie Navarro of the Altoona Rotary club, Frank _______ from a RC in Utah
Make-ups turned in:
Guests:
Evan Smith, a guest of Chris Potalivo, and Gabby from Argentina (a new youth exchange student), Julian McBride the outgoing Ambassadorial Student.
50/50: Mark Whitfield had his ticket punched but it did him no good because he pulled a nice seven of diamonds and not the ace of spades. Now there are 14 cards left and about $1750 in the pot to split.
Auction: Dr. Dayananada provided the auction item, a bust of Beethoven. It went to a high bid of $12 and our guest from Utah.

  • Membership training seminar is in Altoona on August 28th.
  • The coupon books are due out and back. Get your letters out and follow up. Contact Pat Coble for more information.
  • Remember when bringing a guest to introduce them as such and not as a prospective member even if they are one. This could save embarrassment on the part of everyone in case someone is not approved.
  • Julian McBride, the district sponsored Ambassadorial Scholar is headed to Bristol, England this fall to begin his year of study over there. Julian was at the club to say hello before he left.
  • Carl Hill introduced the youth exchange student our club is sponsoring. She is Gabby from Argentina.Ask about their soccer team that won Gold!
  • a new proposed member P.B. was approved by the membership committee and the board for membership in the club. There is now a ten day period.
  • Jim Eberly reported about Rotary's Central Parklet Project sponsored by the two SC clubs. The new "Children's Play Space" will be lot of fun for kids. The total costs of the project are $50,000. 50% needs to be raised by the two SC clubs as part of Rotary's 100th anniversary in 2005. Bricks are on sale ($100 for first kid name, $50 for each subsequent). The bricks will be used for the walkway. A pamphlet was distributed.
  • International Conference 2005 is in Chicago, June 18-22, 2005. It is probably a good idea to make reservations for attending this now.
  • Jim Eberly mentioned the Centennial project. We are selling bricks for $100 to raise money for the park. The subsequent bricks are $50. Funds donated are through the clubs 501(c)3 so that means tax deductible. At summer concerts in the parklet we will be doing water sales to raise money too. The remaining date is August 10. Mark your calendar!
  • The club has a list serv. All active members are on it. The email address for it is SCDTROTARY-@LISTS.PSU.EDU. Email Paul Rutter to see about your admission. It is a private listserv not open to the public. If you are already on it and want help with it please call or email me.

TCHFH is a faith based group working to make home ownership possible for low-income families.

TCHFH is part of Habitat for Humanity International, and is one of over 1600 affiliates in the U.S. and more than 80 other countries. Founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, HHI has built over 120,000 decent, affordable homes for God's people in need.

Property and building materials are donated or purchased with capital from donations, mortgage payments, and fund raising projects. Labor is provided by volunteers and by prospective Habitat homeowners who invest "sweat equity" of 500 hours and make a $500 down payment. Houses are sold for approximately the cost of materials with 20-30 year mortgages and no interest is charged. Monthly payments include funds set aside for real estate taxes and house insurance.

Family selection is non-discriminatory, based on housing need, ability to make payments to purchase the home, and willingness to work in partnership with Habitat. We build energy-efficient, simple, easy to maintain homes so that our families can be successful homeowners.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
You may volunteer as an individual or as part of a group to do construction, be a board member, be a family nurturer, do fundraising - HOUSEWALK, office work, publicity, or most anything that helps our organization.
You can help spread the word about the good work that Tri-County Habitat is doing in Centre County.

You can make a financial contribution that will help pay for materials for the homes being built or renovated - help us give a "hand up" not a "hand out".

Your congregation can become a Covenant Congregation by formally signing a pledge to support Habitat with prayer, funding, and volunteer labor.

Your congregation can Adopt-a-Home by formally signing a pledge to build a home on your own or with another congregation or organization.
