  • Dick Jones won the Men's Flight at Toftrees
  • Russ Brooks and Leann Martin were in the paper for being appointed to serve on the board of the Centre County Industrial Development Authority.
  • Ag Progress Days dinner is going to be on Wednesday, August 20, at 6:00 pm, and the cost is $12.00. Sign-up sheets were passed around. This event is co-hosted by the evening Rotary club and the State College Kiwanis club.
  • HOST FAMILIES are still needed for the youth exchange program. Contact Ron Taverno if you can help out with thi important area of support.
  • Doug Holmes has offered to accept the role of club secretary.
  • Teresa passed out membership rosters. These are also available on the Web. Contact Paul for the web address. (There is not a link to it to protect your privacy)
  • Linda Friedman told us we voted to do a coupon book this coming year as a fund raiser to help support Polio Plus.
  • Rotary International approved an Internet Club. It can be used for make-ups. The URL to the club is http://www.rotaryeclubone.org.
  • Meg brought in a great article from Fortune.com from 4/30/03 entitled “Rotary vs. Polio.” (click link to read it!)
  • The club has a list serv. All active members are on it. The email address for it is SCDTROTARY-@LISTS.PSU.EDU. It only works if you are a subscriber so if you aren't on it and want to know even more about the club Email Paul Rutter to see about your admission. It is a private listserv not open to the public. If you are already on it and want help with it please call or email me.
Previous Week's Speaker: Assembly

Secretary's report: attendance was 62%

Treasurers report: copy of monthly report passed out. We are still in the black. T shirt money is outstanding. If you have a shirt and haven't paid please get funds to Carl. Carl is checking with MaryAnne also for location of shirts that haven't been received by certain members.

Doug Holmes was officially made the club Secretary (whew)

Ben Amato was recommended for approval by the board and awaits approval by the club. Member will have 10 days to state their opinions and/or object to the approval

In fund rasing We are still waiting upon Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church to see if we can use their facilities for a spaghetti dinner fund raiser. Proposed date is March 24 with March 23rd for prep cooking.

Youth Exchange did not have a report.

Ambassadorial Scholar: we are sponsoring a candidate Juliam McBride. Alternatively Paul Rutter is the counselor for an incoming scholar from France, named Sarah Lanne.

Centennial Project at the Central Parklet: This project is in conjunction with the evening club. The design is in process.

Hugh and a select group will be meeting with the management of Damon's to look into better meals

We have contributed $3750 to the Rotary Foundation for Polio Plus so far this year Ourt goals is $11,000.

We will have a new Paul Harris Fellow: Brian Christian

Vocational: Paul Bell introduced Jason Harpster. Jason was our sponsored student to White Water in Wisconsin on June 14th of this year. Jason indicated that he found the trip to be very worthwhile. The program involved daily speakers and breakout sessions for student discussion. One of the more popular speakers was an assistant editor for Newsweek. Other topics involved the environment and Korean history. The entire group at White Water was about 1000 students, of which 250 were international. There were 6 from Pennsylvania. Jason related a personal story about meeting a girl who he met in 6th grade and how had since moved away. Small world. All in all it was a good time. Jason extended his thanks to the club.

Makeup's at service projects get attendance credit only. All makeup cards should be turned into the club secretary promptly.
