Week's Speaker: Betsy
Allen, Schlow Library Project |
Teresa Davis introduced our speaker Mike Negra and an assistnat Lisa
Colten.
Mike began by letting us know the history of the State Theatre, He
let us know that their Web
site had a great history page too.
In the beginining
of the project, Mike spoke to the owner of the property suggesting
ideas for when Carmike would go out of business as he surmized they
might, and they did. Mike suggested that the theatre be renovated
into what is proposed a state of the art theatre that can hold 560
persons. There is nothing in the area that can claim this kind if
seating or quality level.
Fund raising is continuing in order to show support from the community
for the theatre. There are naming opportunities available such as
the "Paul Rutter Web Design Stage" at the State Theatre
(I forgot to inquire about the money). If
there is enough community support, the Friedman's will donate the
property-a value of upwards of $1.5 million.
The theatre is the last of the old style in the area.
Please visit their Web site to learn more. http://www.thestatetheatre.org.
