LAST WEEK IN REVIEW

Visiting Rotarians: Larry & Betty White - Scranton; Klees Bronson - Evening Club; Donna & Jeff Yarnell - Oregon
Make-ups turned in:
Guests:Maggie Patt Biddle, GM of the Atherton Hotel

50/50: Visitor Jeff Yarnell had the winning ticket and thought he could take our money to the Great Northwest. We're not sure how good his medical coverage, but we might have found out if he pulled the Ace of Spades. He did pull a spade, but it was the seven. The pot's even bigger! The pot has about $500 in it.
Auction: 2 tickets to Blue Moon Blues Festival at Toftrees on July 18. Donated by Gary Brytczek. It was rather short notice since the festival was only one day away, but Leanne Martin knew she could attend and had the winning bid of $15 - quite a bargain

Previous Week's Speaker: Bob Finley from the University Park Airport

Roger Fetter took the helm in President Hugh's absence.

Bob Finley of Penn State spoke about the University Park Airport (SCE to baggage handlers). As of 7/22 there will be 4 airlines serving UP with the addition of Comair (Delta). With these carriers you can now travel from State College directly to Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Detroit and Cincinnati, and from there almost anywhere else with some easy connections.

Bob also told us that with Delta announcing that it would fly Regional Jets to UP, Northwest said it too would begin using RJ's and United also has plans to do so. The UP service area goes all the way to Altoona, DuBois, Williamsport and halfway to Harrisburg. And the area continues to grow because roads like I-99 make getting to the airport very easy. In addition to the 16,000 commercial flights every year, UP has 40,000 general aviation flights (thanks to flights by FedEx, the military, cargo planes and corporate jets.

The airport is owned jointly by the University and the Centre County Airport Authority, and is self-sufficient. No tax money goes to run the airport. With the upcoming expansion of the terminal and parking and of the hangers there will be lots of news coming from University Park Airport in the future.

This week’s note taker: Jim Eberly
