There are two relatively new Web pages up.
One is for Rotary Foundation Program alumni. The
hope or goal behind this page is to keep members aware of persons
in our community that might benefit further from Rotary by membership
or participation in other things we are doing. The second page is
on the District Web site. It honors the
Veterans in our Rotary community. Both pages are still in an initial
building stage so if you know of anyone that has been left out, please
let me know so I can include them.

Week's Speaker: Barbara Collins, Development Associate, of Easter
Seals |
The speaker was Barbara Collins, Development Associate, of Easter
Seals introduced by Don Bedell.
The topic was the History between Rotary and Easter Seals.
Easter Seals was founded by Rotarians to provide services for children
with disabilities. Rotary International is one of Easter Seals largest
contributors.
The organization was started in 1919 by Paul Harris and Edgar Allen
as the International Society for Crippled Children. Both Mr. Harris
and Mr. Allen were successful businessmen who believed that "Success
Involves Responsibility". Mr. Harris' vision was to create a
network of service clubs which became Rotary. When Mr. Allen's young
son was injured in an accident, he vision became the desire to help
children with disabilities. He turned to Rotary and with their help
the Society for Crippled Children was created.
Mr. Harris and Mr. Allen were the co-authors of the 1930 Children's
Bill of Rights. Both men were honored in the fall of 2005 with The
Extra Mile National Volunteer Pathway.
State College's Easter Seals Child Development Center is integrated
with children with disabilities and with typical children. "Children
learn to look at children as children." Funding comes from Rotary,
United Way, private donations and special events.
Respectfully submitted by Judy Myrick
