has contributed $100 towards his costs for attendance there.
In late December, Carol passed out a new breakfast club survey. Please
fill these out and return to Carol with info on prospective members.
The Bowl Games Football Pool is over now. The lucky winner was Jim Eberly!
Previously, Hugh Mose announced we have received a matching grant for
our World Community Project that is trying to outfit 8 classrooms with
furniture at a school in Istanbul, Turkey. Our club commitment is $2000
and the total pledged between our club and district and the club and district
in Turkey is $19,000.
Sell Sell Sell your coupon books. Paul made a flier
that might help sell these things which actually sell themselves: 49 coupons
for various values in town! Contact Rotarian Dr. Tracy Sepich to get your
coupon books. Her office is over by Lowes and the old Philatelic building.
Point your web browser to: http://www.rotaryeclubone.org/index.html
click on Programs and follow the directions to do make-ups with the e-club.
At the end, you print out your make up slip and submit it to current secretary
Ms. Friedman.
The club has a list serv. All active members are on
it. The email address for it is SCDTROTARY-@LISTS.PSU.EDU. Email Paul Rutter to see about your admission.
It is a private listserv not open to the
public. If you are already on it and want help with it please call or
email me.
There are two relatively new Web pages up.
One is for Rotary Foundation Program alumni. The
hope or goal behind this page is to keep members aware of persons
in our community that might benefit further from Rotary by membership
or participation in other things we are doing. The second page is
on the District Web site. It honors the
Veterans in our Rotary community. Both pages are still in an initial
building stage so if you know of anyone that has been left out, please
let me know so I can include them.

Week's Speaker: Gene and Natalie from Mt. Nittany
Winery |

The winery was opened for business in July of 1990 by proprietors,
Joe and Betty Carroll, who had been amateur winemakers for 20 years
during Joes career as a professor in the College of Business
Administration at Penn State. Their purchase in 1983 of the sixty-five
acre property was followed in 1984 by the first grape plantings. The
entire winemaking operation was initially contained in the original
chalet-style building which now houses a state of the art bottling
line. A spiral staircase leads upstairs to the tasting room and views
of the adjacent pond, mountain range, and the five acre vineyard.
During harvest in the fall, the grapes are processed on a covered
cement loading dock with a modern, stainless steel crusher/destemer
and bladder press. Several additions to the winery have increased
tank and barrel storage capacity to over 10,000 gallons. The latest
addition in 1998 provided needed bottle storage and a second-floor
banquet room for winery events, conferences, and catered events.
One
reason behind the success of the winery is a well-suited microclimate.
The open exposure and excellent air drainage on the southern slope
of Mt. Nittany protects against early and late frost damage and creates
a favorable environment for growing European wine grapes. The five
acre vineyard has seven varieties, including Cayuga, Seyval Blanc,
Riesling, Chardonnay, Vidal Blanc, de Chaunac, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Special note: All grapes are picked by hand at harvest. Volunteers
are needed for this. Contact the winery in August to volunteer help.(814)
466-6373 is their number.
This weeks note taker: Hugh Mose
