  • Happy Happy Bucks are funds paid to the club to speak up and tell all why you are happy!Bucks from: • Doug Holmes will be mixing business with pleasure during his trip to Stockholm, as he will be speaking at The Swedish Parking Association there. Doug was also happy that a former youth exchange student from Japan, Myumi Joy, was back in State College. • Bob Williams was happy that three former Leadership/Centre County youths were coming into Rotary as new members. • Paul Rutter, coincidentally, mentioned that he, too, will be going to Stockholm - for pleasure, not business, and was looking forward to the adventure. • Laurel Sanders will be going to Prague, and is very happy to be taking this journey. • Jana King was happy she only got a warning ticket for parking illegally on campus (Doug mentioned next time she'll be towed!).
  • We are pleased to have a new member, Frank Gatto, whose induction ceremony took place during this week's meeting. Jim Eberly, proud sponsor, put the Rotary pin on Frank's sweater, and Teresa Davis did the honors of announcing what good qualities and good spirits Frank has displayed. He was presented with his new inductee folder and Red Badge.
  • Paul Bell has consented to conduct new member orientation, for new members, Wednesday, February 22nd, at Damon's, at 11:45-1:15.(Same room as our regular luncheon meeting). Lunch will be provided.
  • Our club's Monthly Board meeting will be held at the Autoport, at 8AM, Tuesday the 7th of February.
  • Don Bedell, Ray Papale, and Jim Eberly made announcements regarding the upcoming spaghetti dinner: Jim says to sell tickets, Ray says he is pounding the streets speaking with local merchants for silent auction items, and Don mentioned that he is assumptively closing all those past contributors for ad placements on our placemat for the event.
  • George Trudeau announced our meeting in two weeks will be held at the Foxdale Village, and will be sponsored by the Marilyn Horn Foundation, followed by a short concert. A box lunch will be provided.
  • With the resignation of Harry Zimbler, we are in need of a membership committee chair. If you want to know more about this, check with president Teresa Davis.
  • It is not too early to register for the District Assembly and the District Conference.
  • Spaghetti dinner, (March 22) tickets were passed out by Jim Eberly.
  • Auction items for the event are being sought by Ray Papale.
  • Coupon sales are going well. Some have been sold by mail. Extras can be picked up from Tracy Sepich.
  • Quarterly bills were distributed by Carl Hill. The Club needs the money.
  • The Bowl Games Football Pool is over now. The lucky winner was Jim Eberly! The club earned $25 and so did Jim.
  • Sell Sell Sell your coupon books. Paul made a flier that might help sell these things which actually sell themselves: 49 coupons for various values in town! Contact Rotarian Dr. Tracy Sepich to get your coupon books. Her office is over by Lowes and the old Philatelic building.
  • Point your web browser to: http://www.rotaryeclubone.org/index.html click on programs and follow the directions to do make-ups with the e-club. At the end, you print out your make up slip and submit it to current secretary Linda Friedman.

Previous Week's Speaker: Rotarian Pat Coble from the Food Bank

Our Program, set up and announced by Doug Holmes, was an excellent and informative, albeit condensed version, of a factual presentation on the State College Area Food Bank, given by Pat Coble. Pat will be presenting this presentation, in full, to the United Way and other agencies, detailing the statistics of services provided by the Food Bank:

    • The ever-changing volunteer base of this organization ranges from high school kids, skills people within the community, retired people, and PSU students.
    • The Food Bank provides an environment for doing volunteer work, serving the community with needed food items for those families in need, but for a short time only.
    • Charts and statistics presented so eloquently and succinctly provided demographic and food item breakdowns provided to worthy recipients. The estimated value of grocery orders for 2005 was $204,123.
    • Direct Services (Food items provided) and Indirect Services (other emergency network pantries in Centre County, such as the Community Health Center, and gift cards provided by such markets as Giant and Weis) are supported and coordinated by the Food Bank.
    • Line budget items of specific food items disbursed against the organization's budget provided us with a picture of how well this organization is run, and how an attempt is made to provide a balanced meal plan to recipients. As presented, this point was well made, supported by an outcomes measurement logic model based upon distribution criteria, and pricing studies that, for example, have shown an average value per bag of groceries provide to each recipient as $12.91 .
    • New case managers have been on board since 2004, to oversee the services provided.
Mark Whitfield thanked Pat, and presented her with a Rotary Mug. With this, Teresa Davis again banged gavel to bell, adjourning us at 1:01PM.
