50/50: There are 26 cards left. The pot is probably about $1200. Rainer Domalski did not draw the ace of spades. But it was his lucky day any way, he won a 4 way test medallion instead.

Auction: Ben Amato donated a gift card to several Italian oriented restaurants. The winner was Brian Christian. Thanks to Ben and Brian.

  • Previous Mystery member's experience: None today. click for answer
  • International Conference 2005 is in Chicago, June 18-22.
  • Thanks to all that helped at the Volleyball Fundraiser
  • The next board meeting is Tuesday, July 6, 2004. 8:00 a.m. It will be Roger's first presiding.
  • Thanks to everyone that helped with Special Olympics and Volleyball.
  • Ellie Beaver was recognized for the great job United Way did at the trash to treasure. The UW raised over $50,000. Ellie immediately recognized the hundreds of volunteers it took to pull it off. It was pretty awesome--folks lined up 3/4 way around Beaver Stadium to pay $5 to get in early! -ed.
  • Membership Committee sign-up sheets have been passed out, get your selections in to Roger for what you want to do or else you will be placed where your help is needed most.
  • Rose offered recognition to Chuck Gambone for having become a mediator in the legal community.
  • Carl Hill was Rotarian of the Year last year. We all voted on the new one for 2004.
  • Carl and Jan Hill spoke about the International Convention that they visited in Japan. Carl was still bowing to Rotarians as he came into the meeting today. They said there was 45,000 people there. The highlight for them was the youth exchange portion.
  • David Hellyer was inducted in the club. He runs Comfort Keepers so that folks can stay in their homes longer as an alternative to nursing care. We'll learn more at a classification talk.
  • Jana apologized for missing her turn in the concession stand at Volleyball, but she had some pretty big things going on at her home. She learned though from another member that Slovenia was being recognized and recommended as an alternative tourist spot/mecca to the Czeck Republic. It seems Slovenia is a hidden, secret oasis.
  • The board approved sending two students for RYLA summer program. Leann Martin is taking care of the organizing behind these efforts. RYLA is a big program from Rotary. This is our first year in a long time participating. RYLA is Rotary Youth Leadership.
  • Please sign up to lodge the RYEX kids on Sunday night, June 13. You can pick them up at Carl's old church after dinner and deliver them back there the next morning after serving them breakfast.
  • Jim Eberly mentioned the Centennial project. We are selling bricks for $100 to raise money for the park. The subsequent bricks are $50. Funds donated are through the clubs 501(c)3 so that means tax deductible. At summer concerts in the parklet we will be doing water sales to raise money too. The dates are July 27 and August 10. Mark your calendar!
  • The District Newsletter is online at the district Web site.
  • The club has a list serv. All active members are on it. The email address for it is SCDTROTARY-@LISTS.PSU.EDU. Email Paul Rutter to see about your admission. It is a private listserv not open to the public. If you are already on it and want help with it please call or email me.
  • mystery answer: none this week.
Previous Week's Speaker: Club Assembly

Treasurers report: We are in the black according to our treasurer. He returned from Japan so I guess that is a good sign. RI may increase dues $12 per year over the next few years.

Secretary report: attendance was 61%

Ben Amato spoke about possibly holding a fund raiser golf tournament. He described ones that he has been involved with in the past.Additionally Ben mentioned taking care of his wife preventing him from doing more on weekends of late. (I think we all understand he is pretty close to sainthood for the care he provides-ed.). The golf tournament idea seemed promising and the new fund raising chair will be working with Ben on further developments for this.

Please see announcements section for other news.

This week’s note taker: Brian Christian
