Mar. 22, 2006 Spaghetti Dinner Fund Raiser, We all are selling.

Happy Happy Bucks are funds paid to the club to speak up and tell all why you are happy!Bucks came from: Dana was happy for his son who after being encouraged to try out for football this fall, made the team and on his first play from scrimmage, ran 50 yards. (He, we assume, is a running back and not a wrestling built linebacker! Well done to Dana's son!!)
Meg's mom whom we met two years ago is 99 today which means her dad will be 100 next week!Don Bedell is celebrating 14 years of marriageLaurel shared news about a fundraiser for her dad, who passed away last year with ALS. Laurel's dad was a long time Rotarian and a charter member of his club in York. Carl talked up the United Way's kickoff and the number of Rotarians at the event. Hugh was thankful for Bob Williams and Teresa's particpation at a recent hearing for public trasnportation. Todd was happy over how well things went for the Operation Salute honoring the Pennsylvania National Guard and Air National Guard.

  • September 21 we are meeting at the Ale House
  • Todd passed out coins from the PA National Guard to all Rotarians that helped with theevent.
  • Marcus Meckstroth told us a really bad joke that was worthwhile.
  • Teresa shared information about our meals at Damon's. Each week we have an option of a house salad or the entre prepared for us that day. At no time is anyone to request to have chicken or steak added to the salad. All that we are contracted for is the garden salad. Additionally when you request specials the orders for everyone else get backlogged because the server is also the one that has to prepare the salad. There is additional cost that is borne by the club when you place requests for extras too.
  • The committee assignments were placed on the tables; it was also proposed to have a "Minute Man" list for potential speakers available on a short notice if a scheduled speaker is prevented from coming.
  • Teresa shared news from the Penn State Rotaract club for the new academic year. Over 50 persons showed up to an informational session. Thes were students that had been involved with Rotary as Interacters in high school.
  • Rotarisn at the Salute to the Veterans of the Pennsylvania Guard. The guard served adn serves in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Katrina stricken areas, the Mexican boder, and the northeast of PA that was hit by floods this past summer. Many troops lost their lives. Rotarians were assisting these "Gold Star" families of he soldiers who had given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The Rotary Foundation Dinner is scheduled for November 4, 2006 in Hagerstown, Maryland. Do not forget to register.
  • If you have coupon money please get that in. You can still sell those babies.Coupon sales are still happening. Extras can be picked up from Tracy Sepich. Sell Sell Sell your coupon books. Paul made a flier that might help sell these things which actually sell themselves: 49 coupons for various values in town! Contact Rotarian Dr. Tracy Sepich to get your coupon books. Her office is over by Lowes in the old Philatelic building.
  • Point your web browser to: http://www.rotilink.org/eClubs/ click on a club's Website and follow the directions to do make-ups with the e-club. At the end, you print out your make up slip and submit it to current secretary Rainer Domalski.

Previous Week's Speaker: Hugh and Carl on the International Project in Turkey

Hugh Mose with support from Carl Hill spoke about the international project in Turkey. We partnered with one of 70 plus Rotary clubs in Istanbul to furnish a classroom that the Rotary District built. Yes a whole school was built by the Rotary district in Istanbul.

The school was built entirely in 6 months with the 70 clubs in the area helping to get it done as a centennial project. The club we partnered with was ANADOLU LISESI.

Hugh and Carl spoke about their lavish treatment by Rotarians in Istanbul. They and their wives were treated royally with the finest of fodds and views including rootop dinners over looking the Straights of Bosphorous and the link from Europe to Aisa..

“If we only listen to those whom we already see eye to eye, we will never create better understanding, a concept that is at the core of Rotary.”
-Martin G Molony, District 1160 Governor, Dublin Central, Ireland
    in The Rotarian, January 2006

"Of the things we think, say or do:

    Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
