    Previous Week's Speaker:

Liz Stett, the State College High School student attending the World Affairs Seminar at Whitewater, Wisconsin.  Liz thoroughly enjoyed her time at the conference, as there were at least 2 to 3 keynote speakers making presentations to the attendees every day.  She met many other participants from around the world, and had the opportunity to share cultural experiences with them:  in their dorms, while breaking bread at meals, and during the little free time allotted to them.
o She mentioned there were 2 unusual events which took place in Wisconsin:  1) a tornado warning, during which all students & faculty had to evacuate the auditorium and seek refuse in the basement (not an easy feat for 700+ persons), and 2) the World Soccer Cup taking place simultaneously with the conference - this spurred the students to stage their own World Cup, with several "countries" competing for the title.
o Liz created a poster, upon which were many photos of individuals she met during her time at the conference.  She has kept in touch with many...
o Participants were teamed with others into Discussion Groups early in the seminar.  Each group was assigned a topic upon which they were to formulate & present a Position Paper.            Liz closed her presentation by reading her group's essay regarding Global Leaders' responsibilities to Leaders in
Developing Countries - a suggested How To...Manual, whereby
current global leaders must guide and encourage developing country leaders in social, economic, and humanitarian endeavors.  All parties, both great & small must strive for peaceful resolutions in all matters of conflict .  And without undue intimidation or harassment by the stronger societies when influencing developing nation's citizens.
o We all agreed that Liz was a wonderful, refreshing representative from our region.

“If we only listen to those whom we already see eye to eye, we will never create better understanding, a concept that is at the core of Rotary.”
-Martin G Molony, District 1160 Governor, Dublin Central, Ireland
    in The Rotarian, January 2006

"Of the things we think, say or do:

    Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
