  • Previous Week's Speaker: Ambassadorial Scholar applicant Elliot Hershon

Elliot spoke to us about his plans if he is to win the scholarship. He will go to Ghana and he has a literature project that he would be involved with that is taking fictional stories from natives of Ghana and helping them relate back to how wonderful their culture is and that they need not emulate western values.

Elliot is a graduate of State College High in 2001 and was graduated from Tufts last year. He is on an internship in Washington D.C. right now. Among his recommendations were the president of Tufts and the Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature. Elliot's presentation blew everyone away. Several persons called me to tell even me nice job on finding him but really Elliot is his own man and he will do us well by representing us in Ghana, our district when he returns, and the world afterwards.

“If we only listen to those whom we already see eye to eye, we will never create better understanding, a concept that is at the core of Rotary.”
-Martin G Molony, District 1160 Governor, Dublin Central, Ireland
    in The Rotarian, January 2006

"Of the things we think, say or do:

    Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
