  • Previous Week's Speaker: Classification Talk from Charlie Hackett

Charlie was born in New England where his father was in the wool business. When the wool business moved South his father remained up north as a farmer, moving to New Hampshire buying a dairy farm.

Charlie attended Ohip Wesleyan near Columbus, Ohio and majored in business. After graduation he moved back home but his father told him he had one week to get out of the house and get a job. Since he didn't care to dairy farm, he went back to Columbus with some buddies, and started looking for work. His first job after a bit of a search was with Firestone and he has been with them with success for 31 years, 26 of it in State College. 1993 was a year Charlie spoke of because the store was the best of all Firestone stores. (He didn't mention it but Charlie was also the Rotarian of the Year that year for our club. Charlie was a charter member three years earlier.)

Charlie is married with two sons, a daughter, and two dogs.

    Note taker-Paul Rutter, Dr. D.

“If we only listen to those whom we already see eye to eye, we will never create better understanding, a concept that is at the core of Rotary.”
-Martin G Molony, District 1160 Governor, Dublin Central, Ireland
    in The Rotarian, January 2006

"Of the things we think, say or do:

    Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
