  • Previous Week's Speaker: Dennis Ditmer from the YMCA

Dr. Dayananda introduced our speaker Dennis Ditmer from the State College YMCA. Dennis told us about two initiatives: the first is called nationally Activate America, locally called Activate Centtre County. Stats 60% of all people are overweight and obsessively so.15% of all people work out, 16% of all children are overweight. Obesity rate rose over 60%, 25% of all adults report no physical activity. This is the first time in history that this genmeration's kids are expected to live less than their parents. Our health systems could be in trouble.

Good news is that people want to be healthy. YMCAs from SC and Bellefonte have signed up to help this problem. The SC Y has 8500 members. They want to get other 85% of people to work out. They want the Y to be the leader. The Y is the largest organization in the county to work on the overweight problem.

“If we only listen to those whom we already see eye to eye, we will never create better understanding, a concept that is at the core of Rotary.”
-Martin G Molony, District 1160 Governor, Dublin Central, Ireland
    in The Rotarian, January 2006

"Of the things we think, say or do:

    Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
