Happy Bucks
from: Brian Christian had a happy buck because the Sweet Tooth Bakery is now open in its new location (the old KFC at the intersection of University Drive and Atherton Street. George Trudeau had one because his son has returned home for the summer and after 2 weeks the house is still not a shambles. Teresa Davis had a happy buck because her son Connor's recent parent teacher meeting went well until Doug informed her that he had
given a happy buck for the same reason while she was off to her High School re-union; something about she would now be in a good mood at work. At that point Teresa changed the reason for her happy buck in honor of her son pitching a little league game last night.
There is a joint meeting on May 30 at 5:30 at the Nittany Lion Inn. Parking at the Nittany Deck will be validated at the Nittany Lion Inn front desk. The joint meeting will take the place of our regular June 1 meeting.
Jerry Friedman will be installed as the next District Governor of District 7350 on June 24 at the Nittany Lion Inn at lunch. There will then be a Bar-B-Que at chez Friedman that evening. Details are on the district Web site.
A Charter Party is scheduled for 5:30 PM for the Sunrise Club. The date is on the way. Cost is $35.00 per person.
WE REALLY NEED A FIRST HOST FAMILY FOR THE ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE STUDENT FROM BUENOS AIRES. PLEASE CALL DOUG HOLMES (
238.3205) OR CARL HILL (359.2920) IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HOST OR IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO DOES. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A ROTARIAN TO HOST A ROTARY EXCHANGE STUDENT.
There is still some outstanding money for the spaghetti dinner. Please turn in any ticket or auction money if you have not yet done so.
From our Treasurer Carl Hill--The club can match your first $100 or
your last $100 if you can commit before the end of the fiscal year (30
June).
Two new members have been accepted into the club, Rabbi David Ostrich and Charlie Hackett (a Charter member and former Rotarian of the year).
After
at least 7 years without an increase, the board approved an increase of
dues from $100 to $115 per quarter. This amount covers meals each week
and dues to district and RI.
The June 1 Meeting has been moved to May 30 when there will be a combined
meeting of the three State College clubs, Pleasant Gap and one other.
The new international theme is "Lead the Way."
If you have coupon money please get that in. You can still sell those
babies.Coupon sales are still happening. Extras can be picked up from
Tracy Sepich. Sell Sell Sell your coupon books. Paul made
a flier that might help sell
these things which actually sell themselves: 49 coupons for various values
in town! Contact Rotarian Dr. Tracy Sepich to get your coupon
books. Her office is over by Lowes in the old Philatelic building.

with the e-club. At the end, you print out your make up slip and submit
it to current secretary Linda Friedman.

Week's Speaker: Dan Carter from Pennsylvania
Center Stage |
Our speaker, Dan Carter, Pennsylvania
Center Stage, cleverly inserted a scene from “Rounding
Third” into his talk. The scene is from a play for their upcoming
summer season at the Allen Street Theater and was well played by two
of the actors from the show. Dan said that “Rounding Third” is
the middle play of the summer season. The first show, “Who's Life
is it Anyway”, is about a man who is paralyzed from the neck down after
an accident and wants to be taken off life support. The story
revolves around the inherent conflict between medical professionals
who believe him to be clinically depressed and incapable of making such
a decision and an individual's right to control their own destiny.
The final play of the season is called, “Sisters of Swing” and is about
the Andrews sisters. Shows start next week. As in years
past, parking will be subsidized by the Borough of State College if
playgoers obtain a parking coupon at the box office on the show night.
The coupon will cover up to 6 hours of parking, so patronize a restaurant
before or after the show.
Dan also reported that the summer noontime shows will also continue
this summer. They are held in the gallery and are free.
There will be four shows each running for one week beginning next week
and are a combination of state reading and sing throughs of lesser known
works.
Brian Christian thanked the speaker for his presentation and gave him
the coveted Rotary State College Downtown Cup.
Note taker: Doug Holmes (Nice
job too!!-ed.)

If
we only listen to those whom we already see eye to eye, we
will never create better understanding, a concept that is
at the core of Rotary.
-Martin G Molony, District 1160 Governor, Dublin Central,
Ireland
in The
Rotarian, January 2006

Is

Is
it FAIR to all concerned?
Will
it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will
it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
