Happy Happy Bucks are funds paid to the club to speak up and tell all why you are happy!Bucks from: Brian Christian had a happy buck because the Sweet Tooth Bakery is now open in its new location (the old KFC at the intersection of University Drive and Atherton Street.  George Trudeau had one because his son has returned home for the summer and after 2 weeks the house is still not a shambles.  Teresa Davis had a happy buck because her son Connor's recent parent teacher meeting went well until Doug informed her that he had given a happy buck for the same reason while she was off to her High School re-union; something about she would now be in a good mood at work.  At that point Teresa changed the reason for her happy buck in honor of her son pitching a little league game last night.

  • Previous Week's Speaker: Dan Carter from Pennsylvania Center Stage

Our speaker, Dan Carter, Pennsylvania Center Stage, cleverly inserted a scene from “Rounding Third” into his talk.  The scene is from a play for their upcoming summer season at the Allen Street Theater and was well played by two of the actors from the show.  Dan said that “Rounding Third” is the middle play of the summer season.  The first show, “Who's Life is it Anyway”, is about a man who is paralyzed from the neck down after an accident and wants to be taken off life support.  The story revolves around the inherent conflict between medical professionals who believe him to be clinically depressed and incapable of making such a decision and an individual's right to control their own destiny.

The final play of the season is called, “Sisters of Swing” and is about the Andrews sisters.  Shows start next week.  As in years past, parking will be subsidized by the Borough of State College if playgoers obtain a parking coupon at the box office on the show night.  The coupon will cover up to 6 hours of parking, so patronize a restaurant before or after the show.

Dan also reported that the summer noontime shows will also continue this summer.  They are held in the gallery and are free.  There will be four shows each running for one week beginning next week and are a combination of state reading and sing throughs of lesser known works.

Brian Christian thanked the speaker for his presentation and gave him the coveted Rotary State College Downtown Cup.

Note taker: Doug Holmes (Nice job too!!-ed.)

“If we only listen to those whom we already see eye to eye, we will never create better understanding, a concept that is at the core of Rotary.”
-Martin G Molony, District 1160 Governor, Dublin Central, Ireland
    in The Rotarian, January 2006

"Of the things we think, say or do:

    Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
