    Previous Week's Speaker: Club Assembly

Fund raising: We sold 440 plates or about 5% more than last year. Dantes restaurants provided 30 gallons of pasta sauce and their own baked bread from that day. Financial totals are still coming. Pat is sending thank you letters to the various donors of goods or auction items.

    Secretary: 54 members, 60 % attendance

Treasurer: Our operating account is negative. However all other responsibilities are good. If you owe dues get them in. Carl spoke about the need to raise dues in light of increases from RI, the district, and our meal costs. We have not changed dues since I joined the club in 1999.-Paul. The board is considering what action to take.

Lederer Park Clean-up: This will be on April 22 at Lederer Park named for our former member Eugene Lederer's mother Lucy. It is a beautiful park on University Drive in State College. We need members to come prepared to brush clean the driveway and parking lots, to pick up loose limbs, and general clean-up that would require rakes and gloves. Pam Ferguson is in charge of the event. A sign up sheet was passed around.

District Governor Elect Jerry Friedman: Remember the Katrina Project that Jerry mentioned a few weeks ago. A group of volunteers from State College is looking for volunteers to head to an Alabama port city to help clean-up. If you need to know more contact Teresa.

Membership: Teresa led a discussion regarding what we can do regarding members that never or rarely attend. When membership committee or board members call Rotarians with low attendance to see what is up the person receiving the call gets mad and when we don't call they still get mad. The membership committee and board members call offending members but lately have been receiving unneeded abuse.

The RI bylaws and the club bylaws call for attendance of 60% or better over a two month period. Suggestions from members on how to deal with this problem covered a range of areas from flat out sending a letter stating that ones attendance is in a deficient status and you have 5 days to let us know what is up or membership in the club will be terminiated to suggestions of current practices being offered of calling and following up with a letter.

The main take away from this to members present seems to be that when one joins the club one knows what the attendance and other requirements are and one should honor them. It is not too hard to contact members given that our club secretary sends out a roster every quarter and members with email addresses are available in several places at the club Web site. It is also not in step with the 4-Way Test to be rude to a fellow member for merely trying to find out what is up. The club newsletter that is sent to each member at least once a week has a prominent link to contact information for the club.

Curious about your own attendance record for the past 60 days? Here it is in pdf format, compiled by our very able club secretary, Linda Friedman.

“If we only listen to those whom we already see eye to eye, we will never create better understanding, a concept that is at the core of Rotary.”
-Martin G Molony, District 1160 Governor, Dublin Central, Ireland
    in The Rotarian, January 2006

"Of the things we think, say or do:

    Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
