LAST WEEK IN REVIEW

Visiting Rotarians: Hamidullah Sherwani from Islamabad, Pakistan (& his daughter) Mr. Sherwani's wife is a doctoral candidate in the College of Education at Penn State.
Make-ups turned in:
Guests: Kate Holmes a guest of Doug Holmes; Carolyn Follett, a guest of Carol Walsh; Our Polish exchange student Rafe; and the winner of the Whitewater Scholarship, Elisabeth Stiff.
50/50: Laurel Sanders drew the 5 of spades. There will be approximately $1650 to split. There will only be 15 cards next time.
Auction: The auction item was from Dennis Martella-an indoor lime tree and magarita salt, and a gallon of Margarita mix with the booze. The winner was Pat Coble at $38.00.

  • Happy Happy Bucks are funds paid to the club to speak up and tell all why you are happy!Bucks from: • Paul Rutter, wife is in town but he is headed to Minnesota for a workshop. • Bob Williams for having a blue badge now • Pat Coble for the smooth Jazz radio station

  • Joe Geiss announced that he has some auction items for the spaghetti dinner, and is seeking someone to volunteer to write cards that indicate the gift item, donor, item name, etc., and bring both the cards and items to the event;
  • Linda Friedman indicated that she had just returned from a marvelous Rotary event where 1500 people from 150 countries were in attendance and where it was announced that this year there was only one case of Polio in India, and only two more countries where the disease has not been eradicated;
  • Teresa Davis announced that the Rotary Leadership Institute will take place on March 25 and that she has flyers for anyone who is interested in attending;
  • Carl Hill indicated that a third host family is needed IMMEDIATELY for exchange student Rafal, who is from Poland.
  • We have two new members almost, Lester and Jean, who have each passed their ten day periods. So congratulations to them. Inductions will be before too long
  • Rotary Leadership training is being held in Bedford on March 25th. If you are interested the club pays for your tuition to attend.
  • Don Bedell, and Jim Eberly made announcements regarding the upcoming spaghetti dinner: Jim says to sell tickets, and Don mentioned that he is assumptively closing all those past contributors for ad placements on our placemat for the event There is room for 7 more ads so contact Don now. He says next to radio advertsing this is the best! Jim spoke for Ray who was not here saying that we are in need of items for the silent auction.
  • It is not too early to register for the District Assembly and the District Conference.
  • If you need more spaghetti tickets you can get them from Jim Eberly
  • Auction items for the event are being sought by Ray Papale and Joe Guise.
  • Coupon sales are going well. Some have been sold by mail. Extras can be picked up from Tracy Sepich.
  • Quarterly bills were distributed by Carl Hill. The Club needs the money.
  • Sell Sell Sell your coupon books. Paul made a flier that might help sell these things which actually sell themselves: 49 coupons for various values in town! Contact Rotarian Dr. Tracy Sepich to get your coupon books. Her office is over by Lowes and the old Philatelic building.
  • Point your web browser to: http://www.rotilink.org/eClubs/ click on a club's Website and follow the directions to do make-ups with the e-club. At the end, you print out your make up slip and submit it to current secretary Linda Friedman.

    Previous Week's Speaker: Club Assembly

    There was a presentation by Carol on the Foundation, She awarded Dick Held a Paul Harris Fellow pin with 2 rubies.Dick spoke briefly about the Foundation and some of its programs and how the club can impact on the programs.
    Secretary: Attendance was 65%.

    Treasurer: We are in the black but get your dues money in! Carl was not present but his report had been given at the board meeting earlier in the week.

    Membership: Ben Amato resigned due to his starting a new office. Cindy Nucciarone was placed on leave of absence due to illness. Rose will take over chaairing this for the balance of the year.

    International: We are trying to organize a group to go to Istanbul where we have participated in a project to furnish a school.This would be at your own expense of cours. Carl will be in Istanbul and perhaps Hugh will be there too in the fall around Labor Day. Anyone else wanting to go, contact Hugh.

    Youth Exchange: We have two students coming this fall. One from Japan, and one from Haiti. If you can host for a few months, contact Doug or Carl.

    District Assembly is May 18 at the Blair County Convention Center.

    The new breakfast Rotary club has 30 charter members. They meet at the Hotel State College on Wednesdays at 7:15 a.m. Attend and get our attendance higher!

    Rotaract meets at Paneras every other Monday.

    Reminders on makeup's:
    All makeup's are good for credit toward meetings missed 14 days before or 14 days after the makeup. Makeup's made at other Rotary Club meetings also get a dues credit. Makeup's at service projects get attendance credit only. All makeup cards should be turned into the club secretary promptly. To find out where you can makeup, check the RI Club Directory, or District Web site.
