ANNOUNCEMENTS: (Please send announcements for the newsletter to Paul)

Dec. 21, 2005 Holiday Party, Brytczuk

Dec 10, 2005 Festival of the Trees-a lot of us, names coming

Fall Semester Hosting Youth Exchange Students-

Value Coupon Books- Collins, Sepich, (all of us selling)

  • Happy Happy Bucks are funds paid to the club to speak up and tell all why you are happy!Bucks from: •I apologise I missed this segment, but I do know that there were happy people despite it being the holiday season, perhaps because they knew Marshall "Doc" and Chuck were taking the stage.

  • The district Newsletter is ready. You can check it out at the district Website:http://www.district7350.org. There is a great story about the Youth Exchange student in Germany now.
  • The Bowl Games Football Pool is underway now too. The link to an entry form is on the Web site at http://centreweb.com/rotary/club/football.html. You can have your family members play too! Double the fun!
  • Teresa thanked the president of the "other" State College Rotary club for his yeoman service in completing the Dictionary Project. John Vincenti was present for all of the Rotary dictionary donations at all the Centre County elementary schools. John was presented with one of our club coffee mugs in honor of his dedication and hard work.
  • Hugh Mose announced we have received a matching grant for our World Community Project that is trying to outfit 8 classrooms with furniture at a school in Istanbul, Turkey. Our club commitment is $2000 and the total pledged between our club and district and the club and district in Turkey is $19,000.
  • Ron Quinn and Leanne Martin have resigned from the club. Ron because he is going back to graduate school and Leanne because the duties of her new position require her to be on the road and out of town frequently. We wish them well. This is the reason that Linda reported our membership was 56 and declining.
  • The club received a request from Corry Niederer, a Penn's Valley high school student, for financial assistance in attending the Presidential Leadership meetings next spring. The meetings are held in Washington, D.C. Several members of our club have had children attend this event in the past and all seemed to agree that it is a worthwhile event. The club donated $100 to Corry's cause.
  • Pam Ferguson has been placed in charge of Bad Grammar at South Hills Business School. Pam admits that this is a formidable challenge. What an honor!
  • Sell Sell Sell your coupon books. Paul made a flier that might help sell these things which actually sell themselves: 49 coupons for various values in town! Contact Rotarian Dr. Tracy Sepich to get your coupon books. Her office is over by Lowes and the old Philatelic building.
  • Treasurer's report: Carl Hill reported that we are in good shape and that our hat passing in November for the Rotary Rose Bowl Parade float netted a $40 donation.
  • Secretary's report: Linda Friedman reported that our membership roster is 56 and declining and that attendance while up to 60% for November continues to be dismal. Come on people, try to make the meeting and if you just can't, complete a make-up at another club or at the eclub. Point your web browser to: http://www.rotaryeclubone.org/index.html click on Programs and follow the directions. At the end you print out your make up slip and submit it to current secretary Ms. Friedman.
  • The club has a list serv. All active members are on it. The email address for it is SCDTROTARY-@LISTS.PSU.EDU. Email Paul Rutter to see about your admission. It is a private listserv not open to the public. If you are already on it and want help with it please call or email me.
  • There are two relatively new Web pages up. One is for Rotary Foundation Program alumni. The hope or goal behind this page is to keep members aware of persons in our community that might benefit further from Rotary by membership or participation in other things we are doing. The second page is on the District Web site. It honors the Veterans in our Rotary community. Both pages are still in an initial building stage so if you know of anyone that has been left out, please let me know so I can include them.

    Previous Week's Speaker: Holiday Auction

Marshall and Chuck were the Über auctioneers today rasing a total of at least a hundred dollars. On the front end of a nine inch snow storm they put on quite a show for the 40 Rotarians in attendance! I believe the highest item went for $25 on a Barnes and Noble gift card and a "Book Thong") I don't know what it is though! Well I do now. I clicked on the link. PDG Carol tallied the winners and is accepting payment for the various items.
One of the more interesting items was the Nittany Lion hand puppet that I don't know if I would accept after the way Chuck was playing with it but that could be just me that is wary!

The annual holiday party will be at Gary's house, 1252 Park Hills Avenue West, State College on 21 December 2005. Park Hills Avenue West is located off Circleville Road. If you are coming from Atherton, turn onto Blue Course Drive (Giant Market), turn right onto Circleville at the traffic light, take the third right from Circleville onto Park Hills Avenue West and Gary's driveway is the first driveway after the Cambridge intersection. If you are coming from Valley Vista or Science Park turn onto Circleville as though you were going towards Atherton. Turn left at the second road to your left (Park Hills Ave West) from Circleville. Follow info above. Kudos to Gary and Sharon for making the party reality at such short notice. Let's make it the best attended party ever!
