Roger introduced Kim Tate, proprietor of Tate Farm in Boalsburg who talked about the Community Harvest Project - a farm membership program. People buy membership to a farm and then receive produce raised on the farm. Stated in Europe (Switzerland). The program allows small farmers to stay on the land. Started in US in Massachusetts in 1986. Families share the harvest and the risk. These farms are presently feeding about 250,000 people in the us. Each farm services from 20-500 families. Famers receive money up front. Tate Farm state the program in 1998 and feed 100-150 families. Each family gets to take about 10 lbs of food per week(about $17 worth). Cost is fairly competitive with the supermarket prices. Year round share is $1000/year; Season share (June-Oct) is $600 per year. This weeks note taker: Mark Whitfield
