LAST WEEK IN REVIEW

Visiting Rotarians: None
Make-ups turned in: None
Guests: Doug Holmes had a guest-his daughter Katie and a freind that was an exchange student to Argentina with Katie named Abbie.
Our two incoming students were also guests: JR from Brazil and Sabina from Bosnia.
50/50: Ron Taverno was the lucky recipient of the chance to draw the ace of spades, but he didn't. He drew the 9 of diamonds. With how many people are buying extra tickets there must be at least $1700 in the pot. There are 12 cards left. You can buy three chances for $2 now too, to make your chances better!
Auction: Meg Moose donated a gift package from Talbots. Rose Kauffman was the lucky high bidder at $42. Talbots also donated an item to the club for the silent auction.

  • The District Assembly is March 29th in Altoona at the Casino
  • The Rotary shirts are in and are being distributed. If you ordered one please contact MaryAnn Eberly to arrange picking it up. Please pay Carl Hill if you have not already. The denim shirts were $21.95 and the polo shirts were $14.95. The XXL sizes of each were $2 more.
  • A March Madness fund raiser is going around. Contact Paul for more information.
  • The evening club is sponsoring an Easter Egg hunt at Holmes Foster Park
  • District 7370 (Williamsport) is holding their District Conference at the Nittany Lion Inn this weekend. We are invited.
  • The memorial for Gene Lederer is May 4th.
  • The Special Olympics folks have sold over 100 tickets so far.
  • The District Conference this year is on May 1-4 in Hagerstown, Maryland. The rates for the hotel, events, and meals etc.are available at this link for downloading. I'd suggest checking out the Hagerstown club's Web site too in case they throw anything up on the Web in addition. I try to keep the District Web site up to date to with information as I receive it. Like Jim and Carol's version last year, Hagerstown is offering the chance to purchase individual event tickets.
  • The district Training committee meeting scheduled for Feb 26 has changed venues, check the district Web site calendar for details
  • The club has a list serv. All active members are on it. The email address for it is SCDTROTARY-@LISTS.PSU.EDU. It only works if you are a subscriber so if you aren't on it and want to know even more about the club email Paul Rutter to see about your admission.

    Marlene Davis, January 2003
    Don Bedell, December 2002
    Tom Murray, Oct 2002
    Scott Rawson, August 2002

It is a private listserv not open to the public. If you are already on it and want help with it please call or email me.
  • About a month ago we lost the Club Web site when our Internet provider of server space went out of business. Through the kindness of a local Internet Service Provider (Centre of the Web) and my own business (Paul Rutter Web Design) the club Web site is back on the Internet. The new address is http://www.centreweb.com/rotary/club/ or http://www.sc-rotary.org. There are a few bugs to work out with files that are missing as a result of our old ISP going out of business without notice. I hope to have them back in place soon. Many thanks to Vicon for the three years of service we did get from them at no charge.
Previous Week's Speaker: Marci Parko from Leadership Centre County

Marci spoke to us about the Leadership Centre County,an organization that I think many of us are familair with as several members have completed the course. That being said, Marci told us the group started in 1991, following the lead of some Southerners from a small town where most of the community leaders were killed in a plane crash leaving the town without leadership.
By having leadership of Centre County involve many citizens, we hope that this void would not occur in Centre County.
The group provides access via social capital that is accrued among graduates of the organization.
The group goes on an overnight retreat which provides icebreakers to familiarize leaders and this is followed by a full day each week to explore different areas of the county.

This week’s note taker: Ron Taverno
