Previous Week's Speaker: Sarah Neider from Rotaract

Our club met at the evening club's meeting at the Nittany Lion Inn. The program was from the Rotaract president, a sophomore, named Sarah Neider. Sarah has a plan to raise funds for a well water project in Zambia, Africa.

The program began with a power point slide show and Sarah spoke about the need. After need was created, she spent time telling us about her plan and how Rotary clubs in the district could participate. Basically the Rotoractors are going to make a presentation similar to the one tonight and request donations from the 45 clubs in our district. Sarah requested not only financial support from our clubs but help to provide transportation to the other district clubs.

The Rotaract Web site will have more information.

In addition, a fellow Rotaract member, Kim Nelson, spoke about how Rotaract raised over $6300 for THON and then we learned she personally raised over $3000. Kim let us know her secret. Kim also spoke about what it was like to dance for 48 straight hours.

*******************************

Special Help Needed for our International Youth Exchange program: Doug Holmes our club chair of this program let us know that we need to be thinking about including our two Youth Exchange students (Paul & Mayumi) when we are planning activities for our own families that Paul or Mayumi could participate in too. Paul Beauregard Blanc, from France, is staying with the Johnsons (number is available from Doug Holmes or Carl Hill) and Mayumi Doi from Japan is staying with Doug Holmes now and in March will be staying with Harry Zimbler.

Activities could be going to a PSU basketball or sports game, or a State College High School game, or going to workout, or if you are playing sports, for instance soccer. Or if you are going to a show, perhaps including Mayumi or Paul in your plans is possible.

Additionally, the club needs to find a host family for Paul (France) for the final third of the year. Ideally this would be with a family that is involved in sports. Paul speaks English well and easily adapts to new families and situations. He is interested in sports. Please call Doug Holmes if you can help out or have questions about what is involved. Doug's office number is: 865-2513. His home number is 238-3205.

The District Conference is May 5-7 in Maryland. You can download a registration form online.
