With how
many
people
are buying extra tickets there must be at least $1600 in the pot. There
are 14 cards left. You can buy three chances for
$2 now too, to make your chances better! Auction: Chris Kerner won the auction, yellow flowers from Queen
Anne's Lace and a certificate to the same. LeAnn Martin was the donor.
The winning bid was $25. *
Last week, Dennis Martella promised to mail a gift certificate for the
Mt. Nittany Inn as the auction item. Hugh Mose was the trusting
soul
that won the auction last week. This week, Dennis did better than the
mail, he hand-delivered the certificate to Hugh in front of club members,
despite probably being up to
his eyeballs
in
taxes. What dedication to preserve a reputation!!.

we lost the Club Web site when our Internet provider of server space
went
out of business. Through the kindness of a local Internet Service
Provider (Centre
of the Web) and my own business (Paul Rutter Web Design) the
club
Web site is back on the Internet. The new address
is http://www.centreweb.com/rotary/club/
or http://www.sc-rotary.org.
There are a few bugs to work out
with files that are missing as a result of our old ISP going out
of
business without notice. I hope to have them back in place soon.
Many thanks to Vicon for the three years of service we did get
from them
at no charge.

Week's Speaker: Joe
Horvath - Pennsylvania Military Museum
The speaker this week was Joe Horvath from the PENNSYLVANIA
Military Museum that is located in Boalsburg.Joe went over a history of the
museum from the Boal family locating here in 1789 upon receipt of
a land plot from the Continental Congress for service during the
War for Independence. Over the years Boal family members were involved
in military matters and would create monuments to the troops they
served with.
The family through marriages would bring in additional stories.
In WWI Boal family members were involved in action and began the
formal monuments and grounds for what would become the Pennsylvania
Military Museum.
The Pennsylvania Military Museum was dedicated
by the State Historical and Museum Commission
to preserve history and educate, as well as honor this state's "Citizen
soldier."
Commemoration to the men and women of all branches of service is
the museum's focus.
Significant "homefront" efforts of the citizens are highlighted
from the early French and
Indian War through more recent conflicts of Vietnam and Desert
Storm.
Highlights range from a full-scale replica of a World War I trench
battlefield, displayed
uniforms and weapons along with their narrative histories and renovated
military equipment.
The 28th Infantry Division Shrine celebrates
the memory of the citizen-soldiers of America's oldest
Army division, the Pennsylvania 28th.
The new World War II 28th Division memorial is a tremendous monument
to those that died in battle, and their names are all carved in
the
wall.
" ...from these honored
dead we take increased devotion to
that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion."
